Sarah Harris

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years ago

After receiving her B.A. in International Studies and Radio, Television and Film at Northwestern University, Sarah taught in public elementary and high schools in New York City and Chicago. While exploring connections between media, technology and pedagogy, she completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Studies at the University of Illinois-Chicago in 2007.  She is currently a first-year MA/PhD student in the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Some of her research interests include the ethics of documentary filmmaking, new media’s impacts on power dynamics, discourses and identities, and the intersection of global theories, cultural studies and media production.  She is also studying global feminisms and social change, especially in the contexts of media and politics in the Middle East.  As an aspiring filmmaker, Sarah has worked in Bolivia, producing documentary films on the privatization of natural gas (2003) and the eradication of coca (2004). She recently traveled to Turkey to continue her filmmaking/academic endeavors and is planning on returning to Istanbul in 2008. Something that excites and motivates Sarah is how the processes of filmmaking and new media production necessitate collaboration, interdisciplinary work and a commingling of theory and practice, which in turn, shape and transform academic and scientific paradigms.
